Pacific Coast Softball Conference

Entering the final weekend of the regular season, four teams are seperated by two games in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference race. Saint Mary’s will enter the weekend with an 11-5 PCSC mark, one-game ahead of both Loyola Marymount and Sacramento State at 10-6. Portland State is still mathematically alive with a 9-7 PCSC record, two games behind the Gaels.

The final weekend of play features the Lions traveling to Moraga, Calif., for a four-game series with the Gaels. Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary’s are the only two teams that control their own destinies, as a sweep by either team will win the conference championship.

In other action, Sacramento State will travel to San Diego and Portland State will be at Santa Clara. All series will begin Saturday with a doubleheader at noon, and conclude Sunday with another twinbill scheduled for noon.

The following are the scenarios in which all four teams can win the PCSC championship and earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

SAINT MARY’S
•    Saint Mary’s sweeps Loyola Marymount, 4-0.
•    Saint Mary’s goes 3-1 versus Loyola Marymount AND Sacramento State goes 3-1, 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4 against San Diego.
•    Saint Mary’s goes 2-2 versus Loyola Marymount AND Sacramento State goes 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4 against San Diego AND Portland State goes 3-1, 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4 against Santa Clara.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
•    Loyola Marymount sweeps Saint Mary’s.
•    Loyola Marymount goes 3-1 versus Saint Mary’s AND Sacramento State goes 3-1, 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4 against San Diego.

SACRAMENTO STATE
•    Sacramento State sweeps San Diego,4-0, AND Loyola Marymount OR Saint Mary’s DO NOT sweep their series against each other.
•    Sacramento State goes 3-1 against San Diego AND Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary’s split 2-2.

PORTLAND STATE
•    Portland State must sweep Santa Clara 4-0 AND Saint Mary’s and Loyola Marymount MUST SPLIT AND Sacramento State goes 2-2, 1-3 or  0-4 at San Diego. Portland State and Saint Mary’s would tie with 13-7 conference records and the tiebreaker scenario would be as follows:

1.    Head-to-Head
       Portland State-Saint Mary’s split 2-2.

2.    vs. Other Conference Teams in Decending Order of Finish:
        1.    vs. Loyola Marymount: PSU 2-2; SMC 2-2
        2.    vs. Sacramento State: PSU 1-3; SMC 1-3
        3.    vs. Santa Clara: PSU 4-0; SMC 4-0
        4.    vs. San Diego: PSU 4-0; SMC 4-0

3.    Run Differential Head-To-Head
       1.    Portland State wins tiebreaker, 12-9 in runs scored during series with Saint Mary’s.
