 Hit safely in all five of LMU’s games last week to extend her hitting streak to a PCSC-best 15-game hitting streak ... Hit a two-run walk-off HR in the Lions’ 2-0 win over Illinois-Chicago in the nightcap of last Sunday’s doubleheader ... For the week, Foley hit .375 (6x16) with a double, HR, four RBI and three runs scored ... Also had a .625 slugging pct.

 

 

WHITNEY LOOMIS

SACRAMENTO STATE

5-7 • JR • 2B/UT • SACRAMENTO, CA

Batted .364 with three HRs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, and a .818 slugging pct. ... Also had a .417 OBA ... Went 3x4, including a grand slam HR, and three runs scored in the Hornets’ 14-6 upset of No. 19 Ohio State (3/14) ... Hit a three-run HR in the seventh inning against Colorado State (3/15) to tie the game at 4-4, a contest the Hornets would 6-4.

 Went 4-0 with a 0.25 ERA (28.0 IP, 1 ER) in four starts last week, earning her second straight and fourth PCSC Pitcher of the Week honor in 2008 ... Tossed two, two-hitters and one one-hitter ... Went the distance in all four starts, recording three shutouts and 41 strikeouts ... Posted double-digit strikeouts in three games ... In the 3-0 win over Bucknell last Thursday (3/13), tied a season high with 12 strikeouts in recording a one-hitter ... Also struck out 12 versus Bucknell in the 3-1 win on Saturday (3/15) ... Recorded a pair of two-hitters in the doubleheader against Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, both 2-0 wins ... The shutout in the nightcap against the Flames marked her 60th career win and 30th career shutout.

Nichole Latham (FR, RHP), Portland State: 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (6.0 IP, 0 ER) in two appearances, including one start ... Struck out 11 ... Allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out a season-high 10 in a complete-game (5.0 IP), 8-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

 

AROUND THE PCSC

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT LIONS

LMU has won a season-high five games and nine of its last 10 ... The Lions went 5-0 at its home tournament last week... SR Tiffany Pagano collected four of LMU’s five victories last week, allowing just 10 hits and one earned run while striking out 41 in 28 IP ... Pagano is 12-4 on the season, winning 10 or more games for four straight seasons ... She picked up her 60th career victory and 30th career shutout this week ... SO Christine Foley extended her hitting streak to 15 games, the longest on the team and in the PCSC this season ... Foley hit a walk-off, two-run home run on Sunday to lift the Lions to a 2-0 win over Illinois-Chicago.

 

PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

JR 1B Jana Rae Slayton had a career-best nine-game hit streak snapped against Northern Illinois (3/14) last Friday. Slayton hit .500 (13x26) with two HRs and seven RBI during the streak ... SR RHP Mandy Hill earned her 57th career victoy in the Vikings’ 3-1 win over the Huskies, moving her to within one of the Portland State career record of 58 set by Christy Merrill (1988-91) and later tied by Shevaun Seibert (1996-99) and Morgan Seibert (2000-03) ... The Vikings opened their 21-game home schedule with a 9-1 win over Mississippi Valley State last Tuesday at Erv Lind Stadium ... Portland State is 3-0 at home this season and 26-6 (.813 winning pct.) under head coach Amy Hayes ... The Vikings are 8-2 when scoring in the first inning ... Portland State is 8-0 when leading after five innings.

 

SACRAMENTO STATE HORNETS

Despite playing five ranked opponents (Fresno State, DePaul, Houston, Ohio State and Oklahoma) and another receiving votes (Cal) over their last nine games, Sacramento State will carry a 14-11 record into this week ... After playing 21 straight games away from its home field, Sacramento State finally returns home to the friendly confines of Shea Stadium this week against Wisconsin (Wednesday, March 19, 1 p.m.) and Pacific (Friday, March 21, 1 p.m.) ... Sacramento State has hit 22 HRs over its first 25 games, 10 shy of the program record for most HRs in a season (32, set in 2006) ... The 22 HRs are already the third best mark in school history ... The Hornets’ 16 hits against Ohio State were the most against Buckeye pitching in a single game since 1999 ... Sacramento State has scored at least 13 runs four times this season, that sets the program’s Div. I record for games with at least 13 runs in a single season.

 

SAINT MARY’S GAELS

Saint Mary’s enters the week riding a season-high five-game win streak, after going 4-0 at its own SMC Invitational last week ... The five-game win streak matches the longest in the PCSC this season, set by Sacramento State, from Feb. 27-March 1, and the current streak by Loyola Marymount ... SR RHP Megan Galloway threw the Gaels’ first shutout of the year, in a 9-0 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 SO) ... The Gaels are 8-1 this season when scoring in the first inning.

 

SAN DIEGO TOREROS

The Toreros snapped a four-game losing skid, matching their longest of the season, with a doubleheader sweep of Bucknell, 5-3 and 7-0, on Sunday in San Diego ... San Diego is 9-1 when leading after five innings ... The Toreros are 6-2 when scoring first ... San Diego’s lone game this week was at crosstown rival and No. 25 (NFCA) San Diego State on Tuesday.

 

SANTA CLARA BRONCOS

Santa Clara scored eight runs against No. 1 Arizona State in the first game of a double-header on Saturday, which was the most anyone has scored on them all season ... Maggie Godfrey hit her fourth HR of the season, a grand-slam to cap off a five run inning against Arizona State ... Noelani Ho’opi’i extended her team leading BA to .310.
