EUGENE, Ore.Senior right-hander Mandy Hill had two RBI and pitched a shutout to lead Portland State to a 4-0 win over Oregon, at Howe Field Wednesday afternoon. The win was the second straight for the Vikings (8-13), while the Ducks (13-10) dropped their second consecutive game.

 

Hill (6-7) scattered seven hits and walked two, while striking out two in going the distance to earn the decision.

 

Hill, 2-for-2 at the plate, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning to make it 2-0. She then added a two-out RBI single in the third inning to extend the lead to 3-0.

 

Sophomore first baseman Jana Rae Slayton homered in the contest for Portland State. Slayton led off the sixth inning with her second home run of the year to make it 4-0.                                     

 

Senior right-hander Alicia Cook (5-6) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out four, in suffering the loss.

 

Freshman shortstop Arielle Wiser and Slayton also both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Vikings.

 

Freshman second baseman Cortney Kivett was 2-for-4 and freshman designated player Monique Fuiava both went 2-for-3 for Oregon.

 

Portland State will return to action Friday with two games to open the UNLV Invitational. The Vikings will play New Mexico State at 1:30 p.m., before facing host UNLV at 6:00 p.m.

 

NOTES: Wednesday’s game was the first of four scheduled meetings between the Ducks and Vikings this season … Portland State will host Oregon in a doubleheader at Erv Lind Stadium on April 16 … The win for Hill was the 55th of her career, moving her to within three of the Portland State career record of 58 set by Christy Merrill (1988-91) … The win was Portland State’s first in Eugene since a 6-5 win over Oregon in the second game of a doubleheader in 2005 … Wiser has now hit safely in nine of the last 10 games.
