Two-time Utah State MVP Josi Summers, pitcher, signed a national letter of intent to play for Utah Valley.
OREM, Utah - Utah Valley University softball coach Todd Fairbourne announced that pitcher Josi Summers and infielder/outfielder Amanda Robinson recently inked National Letters of Intent to play for UVU in 2011.
Summers is a two-time state MVP from Bear River High School in Tremonton, Utah.
"Josi has a great upside. Her size (5-foot-11) gives her a strong presence in the circle," Fairbourne said. "I have watched her develop over the last year of summer ball while pitching for the So Cal Pumas, and it is that development and experience with a top-line program that convinced me I wanted to make her a Wolverine. She has been a dominant pitcher throughout her high school career, and I am looking for her to bring that dominance to this level."
"It has been my life goal to go to a Div. I college and I finally made it," Summers said. "Now my goal is to actually contribute to the program and help my teammates reach the goals that we set as a team."
Robinson (5-8) plays outfield and second base for Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Calif.
"I'm very excited that Amanda has chosen to bring her talents to UVU," Fairbourne said. "She is a competitor and has great instincts for the game. She will hit for average and power, and I expect her to immediately challenge for a starting spot."
"UVU offers everything I wanted in a college and more, and I really felt Utah Valley was a great fit for me," Robinson said. "I wanted to be a part of an amazing program and also be surrounded with a great coaching staff and teammates. I believe I can become a great player and strong woman at UVU."
The Wolverines open the 2010 season on Feb. 12 in St. George, Utah, when they battle the University of Maine and San Jose State in the first two games at the Red Desert Classic. UVU plays Idaho State and UC Santa Barbara the following day to close out the Classic.
