PORTLAND – Ellen Moore has been named the new commissioner of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, PCSC President Mark Orr announced Monday. Moore becomes the PCSC’s second commissioner, replacing Wendy Guthrie, who served in the post since the conference started play in 2003.
Moore is also currently working as the Director of Championships for the West Coast Conference. Four WCC schools are founding members of the PCSC: Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary’s, San Diego and Santa Clara. Big Sky-members Portland State and Sacramento State are also charter members.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the hiring of Ellen as the new commissioner of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference,” said Orr, who is also the Director of Athletics at Saint Mary’s. “Ellen has gained significant experience in conference administration, and was an outstanding student-athlete in the sport of softball at Georgia Tech. We believe that along with Ellen’s administration background, her passion for the student-athlete experience and the sport of softball will elevate the PCSC to the next level.”
In her position of the Director of Championships at the WCC, she coordinates five annual WCC Championships, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. Moore comes to the PCSC as the conference is set to expand to a two-division, 12-team format for the 2010 season. The PCSC will hold its’ first-ever PCSC Championship Series next spring to determine its’ automatic NCAA bid.
“I’m excited to pursue this unique opportunity with the PCSC, allowing me to combine my conference administration experience with my softball background in order to be an advocate on behalf of our membership and student-athletes,” Moore said. “The West is undeniably the hot bed of college softball and I am confident the PCSC can be an impact player. I’m excited for the recent expansion of the league, the upcoming inaugural championship experience in 2010 and the overall future of the PCSC.”
“I want to thank Mark Orr and the entire PCSC Executive Committee for affording me this opportunity. I also want to thank Wendy Guthrie for her leadership and hard work on behalf of the conference over the past seven years.”
Prior to joining the WCC in her current position, Moore was the Programs and Project Coordinator at San Jose State from August 2005-October 2006. She helped in the redesign and launch of the athletic department’s new web site and served as the tournament manager for the 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball West Regional.
Moore also worked as a Communications Assistant for the WCC from July 2004-June 2005. While earning her Master of Arts in Sport Management at the University of San Francisco in May 2005, Moore served as an Athletic Marketing and Promotions Graduate Assistant.
Moore graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in May 2001. As the former Ellen Styer, she was a four-year letter winner for the Yellow Jacket softball team from 1998-2001. In 2001, she served as team captain and earned Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll honors in 2001. Moore also still holds the school single-season record for fielding assists with 153 in 1999, while playing second base and shortstop.
